Blue Cone Initiative – Photography & Video Guidelines

At Bunbury Netball Association, the safety and wellbeing of our players is a priority. As part of our ongoing commitment to child safeguarding, we are introducing the Blue Cone Initiative.

What does a blue cone mean?

A blue cone placed at the court (at the scorebench/timer area) indicates that:

  • One or more players participating in that game have not consented to photography or video
  • No photos or videos are permitted during the game

This will also be identified by a blue dot on the scoresheet.

Why is this in place?

This initiative respects the privacy and wishes of players and families who have indicated “no consent” during the PlayHQ registration process. It ensures all participants can enjoy netball in a safe and comfortable environment.

Team Responsibilities

  • Teams with players in the no-consent group will be advised by BNA
  • A team representative (coach or manager) must:
    • Collect a blue cone from the shed
    • Ensure it is clearly visible at the court before the game starts
    • Remove and return the cone at the end of the game

Spectator Responsibilities

  • Always check for a blue cone before taking photos or videos
  • If a blue cone is present, no photography or filming is permitted
  • When photography is allowed, all images and videos should be taken and shared respectfully

We appreciate the cooperation of our community in supporting this important initiative.
